Firstly I need to apologise for the above photo but with De Bortoli being hugely popular its sometimes difficult to get a good photo at the cellar door, so the above is the best I could do. What it does show though, is a smiling host and that’s exactly what I’ve come to experience every time I take a group to De Bortoli. The experience really is fantastic and the wine list is very extensive and if you love fortifieds then you will be right at home. And to round out the experience the cheese shop is also located within the cellar door and tastings and purchases are available to all guests.
Being one of the most popular wineries in the Yarra Valley and at the northern end of the Valley, I think its a great place to start a winery tour at 10:30am as the tasting can easily last an hour and it’s generally a quieter time. Plus the history of this winery alone really helps to put the Yarra Valley region into perspective and from here you can then head south towards the wineries located on the Maroondah highway.
